Exploring Gnosticism

Andrew Philip Smith & Steve Dee - Hosts of
'Exploring Gnosticism: Spiritual Freethinking in Theory and Practice'

Andrew Phillip Smith and Steve Dee will provide an engaging and interactive presentation regarding the ancient origins of the Gnostic current, how it impacted on the current magical revival and what this might mean for contemporary magical practioners today. What is Gnosis? Who were the Gnostics and what did they believe? Did their beliefs continue and how did these shape the rebirth of magical practice? Is Gnosticism still relevant? How are people exploring this impulse today? What might I do as a magician if I wanted to explore it further?

Andrew Phillip Smith is the author of several books including 'John the Baptist and the Last Gnostics', 'Gnostic Tendencies', 'Lost Teachings of the Cathars', 'Secret history of the Gnostics', 'A Dictionary of Gnosticism', and 'Gnostic Writings on the Soul'. He is also the founder of Bardic Press and editor of 'The Gnostic: A Journal of Gnosticism, Western Esotericism and Spirituality'. Although the list of books screams 'Gnostic, Gnostic, Gnostic' his personal orientation and practice is more inclined to the magical tradition, the Gurdjieff work and esotericism in general.

Steve Dee is the author of 'A Gnostic’s Progress: Magic and the Path of Awakening' and the co-author (with Julian Vayne) of 'Chaos Craft'. After a near-miss with the Anglican Priesthood, Steve focused his energies on more occult pursuits that have included work within the east/west tantra group AMOOKOS and the Chaos Magic current. His current interest in Gnosticism represents an attempt to explore the way in which joys of heretical free-thinking can be harnessed for the benefit of all.
